Palolo Elementary School focuses on the whole child and provides Social Emotional Learning using the Jesse Lewis Choose Love Enrichment Program. This program provides children with the knowledge, attitude, and skills they need to choose love in any situation. The program focuses on four important character values; COURAGE, GRATITUDE, FORGIVENESS, and COMPASSION IN ACTION. The school wide focus on Social Emotional Learning using Choose Love provides a culture of caring and respect for each other and ourselves.

Palolo Elementary students have access to the Center for Creative HeARTS. This center provides opportunities for ALL students to engage in fine arts, performing arts, and music classes taught by industry professionals. Palolo partners with the Honolulu Museum of Arts, Hawaii Opera Theater, Honolulu Theater for Youth, and Artists in the School to provide music, performance, ceramics, and other arts programs as part of a well balanced curriculum that focuses on the whole child.

All students at Palolo have access to one to one technology devices in their classrooms. All students are assigned their individual chromebook computers to access various learning tools such as iReady, KidBiz, and Mystery Science. In addition, all teachers are provided Professional Development on technology to engage all students to become 21st Century Learners.

Community Partnership Activities have been invaluable in helping to strengthen and build relationships and involvement amongst stakeholders (i.e. Campus Beautification projects, Read Alouds, resource speakers, After school Program volunteers, mentoring programs, etc.). As a means of building  strong connections between the good work of our community partners in relation to our school’s vision and mission, a series of presentations in a variety of venues were held with many of the community groups (East Honolulu Rotary, Sunrise Rotary, Honolulu Rotary, Epiphany Church, Kaimuki Christian Church (Palolo Pipeline, I9 Sports, etc.) to publicly share our vision and mission as a means of  creating a better understanding of our students and families.

Palolo School Community Council (SCC) is continually kept apprised of the school improvement process (AP and WASC).  School stakeholders are encouraged to seek input from their respective group. The SCC  not only discusses issues which impact student achievement but also shares ways in which the school can make the changes necessary to heighten student achievement.
