HSA Reading Proficiency

Source:  Longitudinal Data System (LDS)

  • From 2010 to 2013 (HSA), proficiency increased as a whole in grades 4 and 5.
  • Grade 3 showed proficiency in 2010-2011, decreased proficiency by 3% in 2011-2012, and increased proficiency by 7% in 2012-2013.
  • Although the Reading Proficiency scores increased as a whole, scores did not meet State benchmarks from 2010-2011 to 2012-13.

HSA Math

Until 2013-14, students in grades 3, 4 and 5 had three opportunities during the year to take the HSA Math test.  This test measured student proficiency in HCPS standards in five strands: Numbers and Operations, Measurement, Geometry, Patterns/Functions/Algebra, and Data and Probability.  Figure 2 shows the percentage of proficiency of all students by disaggregated groups.  The State targets for Math were 64% in 2010-2011 and 2011-2012, and 82% in 2012-2013.  Only students enrolled in the Full Academic Year are counted towards this target.
